My skin is fair,
My eyes are light
The blood of my ancestors
Runs with all it's might
Through my viens
From my heart
Reaching out to every part
I can't help who I am
For I was made by Creator's hand
As He made the red of the earth
and the blue of the skies
He has made me
Cherokee.with green eyes.
Cherokee blood is like gold~~~
No matter how thinly spun~~
It still shines brightly~~~~
There is no such thing as "part-Cherokee".
Either you are Cherokee or you are not.
It is not the quantity of Cherokee blood in
your veins that is important, but the quality
of blood, it is your pride in it . I have seen full-bloods
who have virtually no idea of the great legacy
entrusted to their care,
Yet I have seen people with as little as
1/500th blood quantum who inspire the
spirits of their ancestors, because they make
being Tsalagi a proud part of their life.
TSALAGI ALE UTLVQUODI
I AM CHEROKEE AND PROUD

The song playing is:
Amazing Grace
performed in the Tsalagi language
This hymn was written in 1779 by John Newton
who, until his early 20's, was an unbeliever.
A decade later he had become a devout preacher.
It is said that John Newton was the captain of a slave ship.
He wrote the song and taught it to the Africans being sold into
slavery.
The tune was known as "an early American
Melody" and became a favorite of the Cherokees.
It was sung on the Trail of Tears
and can be considered the Cherokee National anthem.
